A cooper is an important worker in a town, especially to the people in the South. They needed millions of barrels per year to store the crops and commodites like flour, corn meal and molasses. Different woods were used but oak was most common. Coopers made barrels, kegs, buckets, tubs, and tankards. There were different types of barrels for dry goods and for liquid items.
